Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American singer and actress whose dramatic variety earned her acclaim across a range of genres ranging from period drama to action and thriller. Johansson has a father who is a filmmaker and architect. The family is from New York City. Hunter was her twin sister, was also born in New York City. She developed an interest in acting from a very young age auditioning for commercials by the age of seven. After a short time her studies began at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. Then, in the following years there was a Professional Children's School was opened in Manhattan. In the Off-Broadway play Sophistry she co-starred with Ethan Hawke. She then had her first appearance in a film in North (1994) and was written by Rob Reiner, at age nine. Johansson was later seen as a character in Just Cause (1995), however, her breakthrough came in the form of Manny & Lo a coming of age movie about two sisters fleeing. The Horse Whisperer (2000) where she was a teenager with a deformity caused by an accident, earned an acclaim from critics. In Ghost World 2001 (as the cynical teenage outcast Rebecca) Johansson was awarded even more recognition. She was a part of a television commercial for Dannon yogurt. In the same way as many young actresses she began her career in theatre. As she was making her stage debut with Wildflower she was also working on different projects across USA. She attended the Stonestreet Studios Conservatory of the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
